Scorm LMSINTRODUCTION: Learning management systems (LMSs) have come a long way in the past few years from being simply an auxiliary function of businesses and organizations to a more prominent role encompassing many critical capacities within their respective user communities. A quick definition of a learning management system could be this: A grouping of unique software programs designed to work integrally toward managing a specific set of educational tools and knowledge. A well-planned LMS effectively delivers targeted knowledge and information to end-users at any time over a variety of media such as the internet, mobile devices, or organizational intranets. The continual development of the internet, web 2.0 in particular, as a learning tool has spawned a new era in online learning. Shareable Content Object Reference Model, or SCORM, is now the benchmark for the development and implementation of online training materials. In order to take advantage of the SCORM LMS, most of the high-quality web-based learning systems are falling in line to meet SCORM LMS compliance. In short, the die has been cast for web-based education. The die is SCORM LMS. SCORM COMPLIANCE AND FEATURES: In order to meet the strict requirements to become SCORM LMS compliant, all web-based learning systems, such as CyberLink TCMS 2.0 and StreamAuthor 2.5, must meet the stringent SCORM LMS "RAID" mandates. "RAID" is an acronym for the following: Reusable: All information employed in a SCORM LMS compliant web-based LMS must be both easily modified and adaptable for use among the other SCORM LMS compliant interfaces. Accessible: Each piece of SCORM LMS compliant information must be easily accessed by users of each compliant platform as well as those developing the content. A SCORM LMS needs to be the same for every user and designer in order to maintain the credibility and reliability of the system. Inter Operable: Remaining true to SCORM LMS compliance, all the available information must be able to operate easily and without error across the various spectrums of hardware devices, operating systems, and internet search engines. Durable: The information contained in the SCORM LMS compliant system will be able to withstand the numerous amounts of hardware, software, and operating system design changes. In short, the information must be designed to last. IN CONCLUSION: Although the requirements to meet a SCORM LMS compliant learning system may be a bit rigorous, they are meant to be that way to ensure the long-term credibility and reliability of the system. |
